TripleA est un moteur de jeu libre, spécialisé dans le jeu de stratégie au tour par tour développé avec le langage Java qui fonctionne sur n'importe quelle plate-forme supportant Java (par exemple : Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux et Mac OS X). En 2008, TripleA est classé à la seconde place de FreewareGenius' ranking of turn based strategy games.

Le code source est livré avec des cartes et scénarios sont fondés sur le jeu de plateau Axis & Allies de MB, mais il est également possible d'en télécharger plus d'une centaine d'autres. TripleA a aussi été comparé au jeu Risk de Miro Company.

TripleA is a networked open source strategy gaming engine that allows for Axis and Allies style rules and customized user editable maps.

TripleA is a turn based strategy game and board game engine, similar to Axis & Allies or Risk. Free to play online, TripleA comes with multiple games and over 100 more games can be downloaded from the user community. Supports single player vs AI, hot-seat, Play by Email and Forum, and a hosted Online lobby for live play online.

Recreate World War 2 with the Axis pushing through to Moscow, Japan devouring the Pacific, and the Allies desperately fighting back. Or recreate Napoleon's march across Europe, or Rome defeating the Carthaginian Empire, or Sauron conquering Middle Earth, or even Zombies taking over America! If you have ever played a game where you push little plastic/virtual pieces around, roll dice, conquer the lands of your enemy, & produce new pieces to conquer with, you will be able to jump right into TripleA!

TripleA History

TripleA was started in Oct 2001 by an unemployed Sean Bridges looking for a way to build up his resume after the end of the tech bubble. Using the 0.1 release as a demo in a job interview, Sean was soon employed.

Sean working full time dramatically slowed the progress of TripleA for a long time. Numerous people made contributions to the project, including both DMA02 and IronCross from a very early stage, but with Sean doing most of the development, and with the limited early graphics, the project did not improve dramatically.

TripleA would have continued on this slow trajectory, but two events occurring relatively closely revitalized the project. The first was the contribution by Logan of new graphics, giving the game a better look and feel. The second event was the release of the revised map and rules. With no competing real time game, interest in TripleA increased.

TripleA 0.3.1 was one of the first versions that was really playable in networked mode. Since then, TripleA gained a very active online player base.

TripleA is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL); either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version. This license means you are free to distribute this work and any derivatives you make from this work either commercially or non-commercially but only under the terms of the GPL (i.e. must make source code available to your users and must allow your users themselves to freely distribute the work and any further derivatives under the GPL).

Gameplay

TripleA features multiplayer and several AIs for single player mode. For live multiplayer games, the community maintains two lobbies for the most current Stable and Unstable versions. There is also a Play by Email multiplayer mode.

A wide variety of map scenarios have been developed for TripleA (e.g. World War II, Punic Wars and Napoleonic wars) with a variety of rules, units and many options, such as "low luck" which reduces the number of dice rolled making game depend more on strategy.

History

TripleA is developed in Java and can run on personal computers with Java SE installed. Some TripleA designers also worked on FreeCol, and Open General. Originally set up on Sourceforge repository in 2002, development was in 2016 migrated to GitHub. In February 2018 the game's GPLv2 license was re-licensed to the GPLv3.

Reception

TripleA has been compared to Axis & Allies and also Risk.

A Chip.de review called TripleA a "well done copy of Axis&Allies" and ranked it 30 of 238 in their strategy game ranking list. Chip.de named TripleA also among the "Best free 30 strategy games" in 2011. A cnet.com/download.com staff review rated it 4.5 of 5 and noted that "TripleA offer a level of complexity and detail that is reminiscent of the real thing (...) TripleA is an excellent portal to a world of historical and fantasy scenarios (...)". A Games4Mac review of the macOS version rated the game 70 of 100 in 2006. giga.de rated TripleA 3 of 5. Other reviewers of TripleA include Macworld, Ghacks, and O'Reilly Media, Inc. A review in German computer print magazine LinuxUser 2007 / 12 praised the Linux version of TripleA as "among the best open source strategy games" and "ambitious and addictive game fun". Linux Format magazine in December 2011 reviewed the game and called it "graphically gorgeous" and "TripleA isn't just a great version of the game though - it's more like a game engine (...)".

TripleA was also used and mentioned in computer science related scientific publications due to its open source nature and project size and maturity.

The Polish game magazine CD-Action included TripleA on a cover disk in 2012. As TripleA is fully free and DFSG conforming in software and content, it is included in many Linux distributions, for instance Ubuntu OS, Gentoo, or Debian.

TripleA became a popular freeware title which was offered by multiple download outlets, including digital distributor Desura. Alone from SourceForge.net the TripleA client was downloaded between 2002 and 2016 over 1.2 million times. The game's maps are provided via a separate GitHub repository and are downloaded from there after a TripleA client (from whatever source) is installed and started, indicating the existence of over 7 million TripleA installations between 2010 and May 2017 (prior to the GitHub migration) from SourceForge alone.

• Décompressez le livrable et placez-vous dans son répertoire racine.

🕵️ Test (1.2.5.3-1 GETDEB du 03/04/2010) de jonas rockenbauer :
Config recommandée : petite.
Superbe jeu de plateau, un must dans le genre.
Après plusieurs heures de jeux sur de grandes cartes l'IA montre toutefois quelques limites et L'intérêt du jeux s'essouffle un peu.

Aucune des versions testées ne fonctionne, à cause apparemment d'un souci de téléchargement de contenu : une belle interface se lance, mais le clic sur le bouton "Select Map" abouti à une interface qui affiche "Map not fournd".
